Carolyn celebrated birthday Oct 22

We visited with Carolyn on Tuesday, October 23. She had a good report from her doctor - her kidneys are functioning properly and he planned to help her with her lack of energy with some iron and B12 shots. Hopefully this will get her moving some more without completing exhausting herself.

I told her after a couple of B12 shots she'd have to give Molly (her daughter) and I some instructions for cooking Thanksgiving stuff! Carolyn has been a main contributor to our potluck meal for both the Boaz and Bell families -hopefully we won't starve this year but I will definitely have to step up my game!

Carolyn Update

Carolyn has now been home 5 weeks. She has good days and not so good days. Both seem to have low energy - the not so good days require lots of sleep. When I think about all her body has been through in a relatively short period of time I realize what a strong will for living she has and how much she has been blessed by all your prayers.

Please continue to put her on your prayer list and I'll update you on her news every few weeks. The fact that updates happen by the weeks not the hours or days like this summer is good news in itself!

Carolyn is home

Well your prayers are working. Carolyn came home on Thursday, September 13th. Thanks to Dan Hughes of Princeton for the use of his private plane and some Princeton friends for the payment of fuel.

I visited with her on Friday and she was in good spirits. She and her family are just glad to be home! Steve said he took great pleasure in the small things like mowing the yard.

The next steps are to get Carolyn on a nurtient rich diet -  she doesn't eat much but eats often. Because of the colostomy some foods are off limits - can't eat seeds or peelings of the food. So if anyone knows of good recipes or a particular food item good for you just let me know. Please keep her and her care givers in your prayers. Thanks so much for your support, mb

Health update on my sister in law - Carolyn Boaz

I want to thank everyone who has been praying for Carolyn Boaz. Many of you may remember my plea for prayers prior to her surgery at MD Anderson on August 27th . We had such a great feeling going into the surgery. Carolyn had been pain free for 3 weeks and was gaining strength everyday - so we just knew our prayers would be answered.

But cancer is so unfair (and sneaky too). The tissue samples that were taken before the surgery got underway revealed the cancer had spread beyond the area they were planning to remove. Doctors went ahead and removed the original tumor (stage IV A)  with a hysterectomy.  The plan was to send her home by the weekend but that turned out not to be the case. She was released from the hospital but continued to not feel strong enough to fly home on the Labor Day weekend.

We were torn between wanting her home and wanting her to stay near the top notch cancer center.  Her body made the decision when the pain became unbearable – she went back to MD Anderson on Wednesday, Sept 5th. Doctors had to repair a leak inside her but going in they did not know if they could even find it – without the surgery she would die – with the surgery they said it would be 50/50. These are choices???

Her church got a prayer group together – on just a moment’s notice 35 people came to pray for her. Family members and friends were called – she went into surgery at 9pm. We got a call from Steve (her husband) at 11pm – they found and repaired the leak! The next 24hours are critical, doctors said.

It is now Friday, September 07, 2007 and she is still with us. Carolyn is still in intensive care but her vital signs are stable. Her sisters, Dad and daughter Molly have flown to Texas to be with her. Her husband is home for a much needed break.  She now has a colostomy and a hysterectomy which were  originally scheduled along with a urineostomy(sp?).  If I know Carolyn she is staying until she gets what she came for!

Please keep her in your prayers, thanks, mb

(Special thanks to the Coltharp family for the Blog idea - daughter Hillary had a car accident and is in need of prayers too).
